Dr Pol Bargués is Research Fellow at CIDOB (Centre Barcelona for International Affairs), where he combines academic and policy work. Bargués has participated in the application of several Horizon Europe projects and in the implementation of five: EU-INVIGORATE (2024-2027), RE-GROUP (2022-2025), SHAPEDEM (2022-2025), JOINT (2021-2024) and EU-LISTCO (2018-2021).
He earned his PhD from the University of Westminster in December 2014. As a post-doc fellow, he worked at the Centre for Global Cooperation Research and the Institute for Development and Peace in Duisburg, Germany (2015-2017). He worked as a teaching fellow at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands (2018), before joining CIDOB.
His work focuses on debates on international security, conflict and peace studies and builds on the legacy of philosophical pragmatism. He has published peer-review articles in high-ranked Journals such as Contemporary Security Policy, Millennium Journal of International Studies; Review of International Studies, Third World Quarterly, Democratization and Cambridge Review of International Affairs, among others. He received a grant by the German Ministry of Education to write the book Deferring Peace in International Statebuilding: Difference, Resilience and Critique (Routledge, 2018). He has also co-edited Mapping and Politics in a Digital Age (Routledge, 2019).
He has disseminated his work widely in international conferences and workshops, organised sections and panels, and given a keynote speech in the plenary session of the 6th European Workshops in International Studies in Krakow, 2019. He is currently co-Editor of the Journal of Intervention and Statebuilding (Taylor and Francis), the Routledge Studies in Intervention and Statebuilding and Associate Editor of New Perspectives (Sage). pbargues@cidob.org
